I have already been asked why I waited so long to read this book and the answer is that the blurb seemed quite confusing to me so I brought the book due to peer pressure and waited and waited. Then I finally picked it up and now I hate myself. Why, just why did you do that to yourself Jasmin? This book was amazingly phenomenal. I just can’t even begin to understand the complexity of the world that this amazing author has thought up. It seems so vast and unknown which is so intriguing and alluring.
This book is about a girl who due to unforeseen circumstances has now been elevated from a nobody to the society’s hero and only hope. That girl is Alina. She has now been thrusted into a whole new way of living and must adapt to being pampered and having no privacy. All the while trying to sort out her feelings for the boy who she has loved forever and the boy who she can’t so no to.
I think that the world makes this story. Yeah it has good characters and a good storyline but the world is just amazing. The way it is described just makes it so clear. I do not wish to be part of the world but I do wish to read about it for a long time. It just seems so magical. It is unlike anything I have ever read and doubt I will ever read. I just can’t explain it well enough. Just read it.
I liked Alina. I thought that she was a very good female lead and she was all that we could want in a lead. She was a strong character but she had her faults which is what I truly liked about her. I liked the way she could see beyond what was right in front of her. We all love a good underdog so I liked Alina and wanted her to succeed but then I was also afraid of her succeeding because something just doesn’t seem right.
Im really confused at what to think of The Darkling. I mean everyone knows I love a bad boy and will nearly to always will chose the bad boy in a love triangle but I am just so conflicted. Because I don’t know if this bad boy is actually an evil boy and is actually a very bad person. But then again it could be another Warner and the author could’ve on purposefully led us to believe that so at the end she can *bam* she is actually a wonderful guy.
Another reason for my conflicted choosing is that I have a soft spot for life-long love. I don’t know why but if it wasn’t for that then Mal wouldn’t stand a chance but once again. Was it really live-long considering the fact that he never reciprocated the feelings until now. I think he is a good character and all but he really pissed me off when he got angry at Alina for showing her powers. Like, are you that petty?
You know, I picked Warner from the start and proved all those haters wrong. So, I’m going to go out on a limb and go for The Darkling. Don’t you let me down.
Have already brought the sequel.
